چکیده

Supracondylar fractures are divided into two types as extensor and flexor. Extension-type fractures are more frequent and particularly visible after palm falls when the elbow is hyperextended (3). With many classifications being defined, the Wilkins-modified Gartland classification system is the most commonly used system for the classification of extension-type supracondylar humerus fractures (3). There are three types in this class. Type 1 covers non-displaced humerus fractures, in type 2 the posterior cortex is intact and angulation at varying degrees is present, and in type 3 the cortical integrity is completely lost (3).

Risk factors of loss reduction after percutaneous fixation in supracondylar humerus in pediatric: a descriptive-analytical study

Background & Aims: supracondylar humerus fracture is one of the most common pediatric elbow fractures accounting for about 16% of the pediatric fractures. Loss of reduction is one of the complications after closed and percutaneous fixation. This research is aimed to investigate the factors involved in the loss of reduction. Method: In this descriptive study, the children with supracondylar hum...

Management of pediatric type III supracondylar humerus fractures in the United States: results of a national survey of pediatric orthopaedic surgeons.

BACKGROUND Supracondylar humerus fractures are common injuries in the pediatric population. The most severe, type III injuries, have seen the most debate on treatment regimens. Traditionally, these fractures were treated as surgical emergencies, most often fixed with percutaneous pinning in a cross-pin configuration. The recent literature shows that delayed fixation is comparable to emergent fi...

Increased pin diameter improves torsional stability in supracondylar humerus fractures: an experimental study.

BACKGROUND Pediatric supracondylar humerus fractures are the most common elbow fractures seen in children, and account for 16 % of all pediatric fractures. Closed reduction and percutaneous pin fixation is the current treatment technique of choice for displaced supracondylar fractures of the distal humerus in children. The purpose of this study was to determine whether pin diameter affects the ...

Management of pediatric open supracondylar humerus fracture using external

Open supracondylar fractures of the humerus are rare in children, and the treatment strategy for these fractures is yet to be standardized. We present the case of an 8-year-old boy with open supracondylar humerus fracture that was managed with an external wrist fixator. A good clinical outcome was achieved in this case, without the development of any complications over a 6-month follow-up period.
